Google will announce the Android 4.5 and Nexus 8 tablet in July

Google won't be using its annual I/O conference in June to announce the next, Android 4.5 version, claim insiders. The I/O event will be utilized to demonstrate a bunch of new Google services, while the Android-related announcements will be left for July.

The source, allegedly from Google's vast offices in Dublin, also tipped that his managers are talking a Nexus 8 tablet release, that will be used as a poster child for Android 4.5. Google is allegedly throwing in the towel on 7-inchers, due to the cutthroat competition that formed in that segment, and will take it up a notch, to the 8-inch realm. There's only a handful of Android slates in that market niche for now, like the Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, and LG’s G Pad 8.3, so the move might be warranted.

This rumor contradicts the previous speculation that Google will be ready with the first batch of two million Nexus 8 tablet units, built by Asus, by the end of April. Nothing is mentioned about the eventual specs of the rumored tablet, though we've heard before that the Nexus 8 might be using Intel's new mobile processors. There is also no word yet on its pricing scheme, or what will be the new features in the speculated Android 4.5 update, but we've got plenty of time for more leaks to happen between now and the summer.
